New 48V hybrid technology
The Hilux is the first model to use the new Toyota 48V Hybrid system. The 48V hybrid system pairs Hilux’s proven 2.8L turbodiesel engine with a new electric motor-generator, 48V lithium-ion battery, and DC-DC converter, all easily integrated without major powertrain changes.
Built for tough conditions, the system maintains Hilux’s 700 mm wading depth, with the motor-generator mounted high. The engine powers the motor-generator to charge the battery, which can deliver up to 12 kW and 65 Nm of extra boost during acceleration.
Regenerative Braking & Smooth Stop-Start
The motor-generator enhances driveability with regenerative braking, saving fuel and improving control. Acceleration and deceleration feel smoother, while off-road capability benefits from a lower idle speed (600 rpm). Reduced engine load also improves efficiency.
A driver display shows CHG (regeneration), ECO (assist), and PWR (boost). The stop-start system delivers quick throttle response and quiet restarts, with the motor-generator replacing a conventional starter for seamless performance.
A strong, stable ride
The new Hilux Hybrid 48V combines strong presence with practicality, featuring a 5,325 mm body, a 1,555 mm bed, and no compromise on performance—offering up to 1,000 kg payload and 3,500 kg towing capacity.
Built on a rugged ladder frame with leaf spring suspension, it delivers SUV-like comfort and off-road capability, supported by 310 mm ground clearance and approach/departure angles of 29° and 26°.
Multimedia and connectivity
The Hilux Hybrid 48V comes well-equipped with the Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system and a premium nine-speaker JBL audio setup.
Smart Connect offers cloud-based navigation with real-time traffic updates, voice control for hands-free calls and audio, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay (wireless) and Android Auto (wired).
Added convenience comes from the MyToyota app, which allows remote control of functions like door locking and climate pre-conditioning, while also providing vehicle data, service scheduling, and reminders.
