The Fortuner 48V Mild Hybrid doesn’t compromise on the off-road capability, making it a favourite among adventure seekers. This new model combines a powerful turbo-diesel engine with a 48-volt battery and electric motor, delivering smoother acceleration and improved fuel efficiency.
New 48V hybrid technology
Fortuner’s 48V hybrid system pairs a 2.8L turbodiesel engine with an electric motor-generator, 48V lithium-ion battery, and DC-DC converter. Designed for seamless integration, it maintains the vehicle’s 700mm wading depth and withstands tough conditions.
The motor-generator, a permanent magnet synchronous unit, charges the hybrid battery, which supplies up to 12 kW and 65 Nm for improved acceleration.
Regenerative Braking & Smooth Stop-Start
The motor-generator enhances driveability with regenerative braking, saving fuel and improving control. Acceleration and deceleration feel smoother, while off-road capability benefits from a lower idle speed (600 rpm). Reduced engine load also improves efficiency.
A driver display shows CHG (regeneration), ECO (assist), and PWR (boost). The stop-start system delivers quick throttle response and quiet restarts, with the motor-generator replacing a conventional starter for seamless performance.
A strong, stable ride
Built on the same tough ladder-frame chassis as its Hilux and Fortuner counterparts, it offers exceptional durability, off-road capability, and a smooth, confident ride—thanks to its robust suspension system.
