In a continued commitment to customer safety and global corporate responsibility, Toyota Division under the CFAO Mobility Zambia Limited, has announced a special service campaign affecting selected vehicles equipped with Takata front airbag inflators.

The campaign covers driver and front passenger airbag inflators in Toyota vehicles manufactured between January 2003 and August 2016.

Over time, moisture can enter certain inflators, especially in hot and humid climates. If an affected airbag deploys in a crash, excessive internal pressure could cause the inflator to rupture and release metal fragments.

No Warning Signs – But No Action Required from Owners

There are no visible symptoms or warning signs to indicate whether a vehicle has this issue. However, CFAO Mobility Zambia strongly advises vehicle owners not to disable their airbags, noting that the likelihood of an airbag performing correctly in an accident remains far higher than the risk of rupture.

Is Your Vehicle Affected?

Any customer who purchased a Toyota vehicle between 2003 and 2016 is encouraged to verify their vehicle’s status. The process is simple:

  • Online: Visit the official VIN Checker at https://www.toyotazambia.co.zm/vin-check/ , enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), found on the vehicle body or license disc, along with your details, and request a status update.
  • In person: Visit any of CFAO Mobility Zambia’s five branches, Monday to Friday during normal working hours.

What to Expect

The service campaign is part of Toyota’s global volunteered recall initiative. Customers with affected vehicles will receive a free replacement of the relevant airbag inflators. The company urges all eligible owners to act promptly, as no repair will be performed unless the vehicle is presented for inspection.
